LightCycle is a sustainable light fixture design competition which was held during the 2009 State of Design Festival.
Using 1m of LED strip lighting and your imagination you have to create a light fixture that represents environmental sustainability. In keeping with the festival’s theme of Sampling the Future, entries will be judged for their esthetic and sustainable qualities – the interpretation of which is up to you. Shortlisted entries will be displayed in an exhibition at the Guildford Lane Gallery in Melbourne between 17-26 July.
The prizes? Very nice pendants from Dark, lamps from Erco, Glasshute Limburg, ECC, Oluce and Zumtobel.
The story began in 2007 with the inaugural LightCycle competition. Entrants were given a compact fluorescent lamp and a piece of cord and asked to create a sustainable light fixture.
The competition was organized by Electrolight, an independent lighting design consultancy based in Melbourne, directed by Paul Beale.
Opening picture, Spork by James Staughton, Ursula Chandler and Grant Divall.
